Working With The Invitation Maven
When I am first introduced to new clients, the first questions many ask is “what books do you work out of?” and “how do you work?” I understand where the first question comes from: many people don’t think that custom invitations are an option, perhaps because of a preconceived notion that custom invitations are always expensive. That is not necessarily the case. In fact, when you work with me, you get more than just invitations. Here are a few reasons why hiring the Invitation Maven will be one of the best decisions you can make. Since your event starts the moment your guests ...
Choose the Right Fonts to Set the Tone
Fonts are more than just words on a page. Every font conveys a different mood or feeling. They add personality to the invitation, and they make a subconscious impression and create an emotional connection to the event. Because the party starts when the invitation arrives, I tell my clients to make that first impression a good one. By using fonts creatively and finding the perfect font for each invitation, I aim to create anticipation and excitement for each client’s event. There are thousands upon thousands of fonts. So when I design a new custom invitation, how do I find the best fonts for ...
Designing Custom Postage for Your Invitation
When I design custom invitations, I offer to design custom postage for my clients to complete the look of their invitation package. The party starts when the guests open their invitations, so setting the tone of the party with the invitation is important. But even before the envelope is opened, the first impression the guest has of the invitation is what’s on the outside. The use of a custom stamp completes the look of the invitation package, and is a fun and inexpensive way to let the recipient know that every detail counts. The guest will think “If the invitation packing is ...
Invitation Postage
When I design custom invitations, planning your invitation postage is an important part of the process, and something I can help with. As if designing an invitation package isn’t hard enough for some of my clients, many of them are stumped when it comes time to figure out the postage. There are several things you should keep in mind: the size, weight and even the shape of the envelope all have to be considered, not to mention remembering that postage has to be included on the response envelope. Several of these items can be determined ahead of time. The U.S. Postal ...
Birthday Invitation Design Tips
The Birthday Party is All About the Honoree
When someone celebrates a birthday, it marks another year of accomplishment in that person’s life. Some honorees feel contemplative, and others are joyful about the passing of another year. Whatever the occassion, from whimsical children’s birthdays to landmark milestones, from extravagant celebrations to surprise birthday bashes, the birthday invitation should reflect the honoree’s personality and style.
What Makes The Honoree Special?
When I meet with the organizer of a birthday celebration, I try to get a sense about the honoree’s temperament. Who is this person? What is he or she like? What makes him or her tick? What are his or her interests and hobbies, and where does he or she excel? The answers to these questions guides the design of the invitation.
What Does Your Important Day Look Like?
When designing the birthday invitation, it’s important to understand the goal of the party. Does the party have a theme? Where is it going to be held? Is it a child’s birthday celebration? Is it an intimate dinner at home or in a restaurant? Does the honoree know about it? Will the honoree be roasted by select friends and family? The invitation should excite the guests and make them want to attend.
We Will Make the Invitation Come Alive
When thinking about the design elements of the invitation itself, there are countless possibilities that can reflect the honoree’s personal taste. Metallic and shimmer papers add elegance. Suede paper can show a person’s soft side. Ribbon and other adornments can reflect a sense of excitement and fun. Layering different papers can show that the honoree has different sides to his or her personality.
The Beauty Is In The Details
Perhaps the most important way to make a statement on an invitation is through font selection. A font can say “whimsical,” “humorous,” “refined,” or any one of thousands of other descriptions. Careful and thoughtful placement of fonts is essential to setting the mood of the invitation. I have hundreds upon hundreds of fonts to choose from, and each portrays a different feeling and state of mind.
